Investing in the Future: My Journey Through the ACT-IAC Associates Program

Authored by: Ben Beatty

As a Business Development Analyst at OnPoint, I’m always seeking opportunities to grow both professionally and personally. This year, I was fortunate to be sponsored by OnPoint to join the ACT-IAC Associates Program, a nine-month leadership development experience designed for early-career professionals in the government IT space.

Starting in April, I’ve been immersed in a dynamic blend of coaching, training, and collaborative projects that are reshaping how I think about leadership and career growth.

What makes this program stand out is its holistic approach. It’s not just about learning skills in the classroom and conferences, it’s about applying them in real-world contexts. Each month, we dive into specific topics like negotiation, networking, public speaking, and managing up. These sessions are led by seasoned leaders from both government and industry who generously share their insights and experiences.

To put pen to paper on what we are learning (while also being one of the most enriching aspects of the program), we have been working with closely with ACT-IAC’s Communities of Interest (COIs). My team is collaborating with the Acquisition COI to develop a project that addresses a real challenge in the IT community. Especially given the historic FAR Overhaul that is underway, working with the Acquisitions COI has offered a chance to contribute meaningfully to the industry while also learning how to navigate new and complex environments.

Perhaps the most valuable takeaway so far has been the relationships. The Associates Program has connected me with a network of driven, thoughtful peers and mentors who are all committed to making a difference. These connections are already proving to be a powerful foundation for future collaboration and growth, and I look forward to seeing where these partnerships will go as we all move forward in our careers.

As we move into the latter half of the program, I’m energized by what’s ahead and grateful for the support from OnPoint and ACT-IAC during my time in the Associates program. This experience really is more than just a professional development program, it’s a launchpad for meaningful leadership, growth, and connection in a rapidly evolving industry. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend applying for the program when applications open for the next iteration!
